A Bently Nevada 990-04-50-02-00 has a specified linear range — the gap distance over which output voltage changes proportionally to target displacement. Outside this range, the output saturates or becomes nonlinear. A probe installed with incorrect gap (too close or too far) will report incorrect vibration amplitudes.
